Les Hamasaki is a visionary, dreamer and inventor who was born on the Big Island in Hawaii and moved to Los Angeles in 1957. Les's life is guided by pursuing the American Dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness so that America will be a multicultural nation that people from all over the world can come to and live in peace and prosperity. Les formerly served as an urban planner under Mayor Tom Bradley from 1971-1992.
Rae Chen Huang has over twelve years of experience in non-profit administration and chaplaincy work. Both a passion to make Los Angeles a sustainable, green city and her love for healthy, good food for everyone, Give Urban Farms has become a way she combines these two passions into one dream of turning Los Angeles into a garden city. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
Rev. Tim Yee is Pastor of Union Church of Los Angeles, a 98-year-old church in downtown L.A.’s Little Tokyo District where he serves a diverse church of professionals, internment camp survivors, artists and homeless. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Union Rescue Mission in LA’s Skid Row and works with Fuller Seminary to support vocational and spiritual formation ministry endeavors. Tim has been married to Kati for 15 years and they have two young daughters.
April Garbat is a landscape designer and certified arborist specializing in habitat gardens for humans and creatures. While she firmly believes that healthy soil is essential for healthy ecosystems, she sees GIVE's focus on vertical gardening as a possible solution for agriculture in small or contaminated urban sites. She lives in Little Tokyo with her husband who works as a director of hospitality for people experiencing homelessness in LA's Skid Row.
Soraya Kelly is an attorney with eight years of legal experience, and has represented corporations, institutions, government entities, and individuals. Prior to attending law school, she worked for a few years in public relations and communications, helping community-based and non-profit organizations to conduct community outreach and spread their message. Soraya is excited to be part of an organization that endeavors to make healthy food accessible to everyone in the community. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two young sons.
